Stone set 18th Century Scottish Silver Pocket Snuff box, top quality & condition
This is a very interesting hand made late 18th or very. Quality Gentleman's Provincial Scottish snuff box, it is very continental in style and shape but a little more fine and has the most amazing original Stone/Agate stone set in the lid and unlike all European or English Silver you see its completely unmarked but has the quality of a London made box, the patina is very good and the inside retains much of the original Gold wash but retains all the character and patina that is good to find. I have owned the box for a while and showed it to a old chap who is a very well versed expert on old Silver and he thought it was very similar to the boxes that come from the very North of Scotland up near Aberdean and the stone was similar to examples he had seen in boxes where the stone is known to have come from one of the Northern Islands, its quite a strange and wonderful stone, almost a cross between Agate and Granite? Overall It has a very rich patina and surface colour which is what you would expect from a fancy 18th century Scottish Silver snuff box and its extra nice being complete and not messed with, the colour and patina of the gilt wash inside is just wonderful. Size: approx 82 cm long. Please look at the images closely as they represent an important part of the description, thanks.
